Coalition Participation Form
The Employment Equity Coalition is a collaborative initiative comprised of individuals with disabilities, Rochester-area organizations, experts, and partners dedicated to increasing equitable workforce opportunities, decreasing poverty, and removing barriers for people with disabilities in Monroe County.
We believe that through education, collaboration, and advocacy, we can create a community where people with any disability have equal opportunities to secure employment.
History
“Employment is the one sector (of the Americans with Disabilities Act) we have not been able to move the needle on, after all these years. The unemployment rate is still the same as the time we started.”
– Senator Tom Harkin, an author and Senate sponsor of the ADA
The Employment Equity Coalition was born out of a 2018 summit that gathered employment experts, community stakeholders, and known leaders such as Senator Tom Harkin. We continue the work identified in the summit and are dedicated to equal access to competitive employment and resources for individuals with disabilities. Disability intersects all identities, and thus our coalition recognizes the profound importance of diversity and inclusion in our work. We strive to break down the barriers individuals with disabilities and intersecting minority groups face daily in leading productive lives. Coalition members are volunteers, and our work is supported by Starbridge as the lead nonprofit agency.
